Projects

Our Projects showcase the real-world impact of our CO₂, fibre, and UV laser systems across a variety of industries, from manufacturing and automotive to electronics and packaging.

As well as manufacturing our own range of laser processing equipment, whether it is a standard product or one modified to a customer’s unique requirement, Millennium also engages with customers on ‘special projects’ where typically and industrial process requires a unique and custom laser design and build to a enable a new process or improve upon older technology.

In such instances, Millennium Lasers has developed new systems and procedures to enable a cost-effective solution. Some examples are:

Silver Cutting

Cutting Silver with a laser is a difficult process due to high reflectivity of the incident light from the surface and the high thermal conductivity of the material. Managing and overcoming these problems is not trivial. Millennium Lasers has developed a bespoke system to cut sheet Silver over a wide area both quickly and cleanly into intricate, nested patterns. Utilising state-of-of-the-art laser technology that very carefully moves the laser beam into the correct positions via intricate multi-axis motion control the system can cut Silver with minimal edge burr, thus reducing and or eliminating expensive post process operations.

Polymer Tab Removal

Millennium Lasers designed, built and installed a laser processing system for the removal of tear tabs on medical grade products which replaced an older, mechanical based system. Implementation of the laser system improved product quality, reliability and throughput, The system comprised a laser source, beam delivery train, X-Y galvo scanning system, motion monitoring and control and accurate tracking of the material.

Wood Modification

Millennium Lasers specialises in the use of laser for the modification of the mechanical properties of softwoods, essentially converting them to hardwoods. This proprietary technology, developed by Millennium Lasers, has significant potential for increasing the use use of wood in buildings (internal & external) as well as decking and other cladding products. The converted wood offers a high level of insect, damp and fire protection.
